Well, Lonesome George has died. He was a youthful (for a tortoise) 100 years old but has left no offspring. He was the last of the La Pinta Galapagos tortoises (Chelonidis nigra abingdoni) making this a documented extinction of a species.

Stupid Humans
So, a couple hours away from me, down in Zanesville, Ohio, a private zoo has gone... public. Yesterday evening the owner of the zoo was found dead and many of the cages were left open. Some reports I'm reading are saying that police have not released how he died while others speculate he killed himself ( Read more... )
